DOWN HOME GRILLED HAMBURGERS

I can honestly say I will never ever make another kind of grilled hamburger. These are wonderful. I found this recipe online a few years back and make them as often as I can. The ingredients sound a little strange because of the sour cream, but I think that's what makes them so good. Make sure to keep the patties well chilled until ready for the grill. I generally double or even triple this recipe for company. *NOTE: Make sure these burgers are chilled very well, otherwise they will fall apart on the grill.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/2 c sour cream
3 green onions, chopped with tops
3 Tbsp bread crumbs
1/2 tsp worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp lemon pepper
1 lb ground beef
4 hamburger buns
lettuce, shredded
4 slice tomato
4 slice onion
2 tsp mustard
1 Tbsp mayonnaise
1 Tbsp ketchup

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare white or yellow sweet onion by slicing in thick slices, place in plastic bag or glass jar with ice water, seal and refrigerate until ready to use. (This makes the onions very crisp and juicy.)
  • 2. Slice a vine-ripened tomato into 4 thick slices.
  • 3. Mix sour cream, chopped green onions, bread crumbs, worcestershire sauce and lemon pepper seasoning.
  • 4. Mix this in with the ground meat until combined well.
  • 5. Shape into 4 patties.
  • 6. Cooking the hamburger patties: GRILL: Place meat on grill over hot coals and cook to desired doneness, turning only once or twice.
  • 7. BROIL: Place meat in broiler pan; broil to desired doneness.
  • 8. MICROWAVE: Place meat in a microwave-safe dish and cover loosely with plastic wrap (made for microwave purposes); vent one edge slightly and microwave on highest power for 3 minutes.
  • 9. Turn patties over and cook 3 minutes longer or until desired doneness and rotate the dish 1/4 turn every 1-2 minutes and drain well.
  • 10. Mix the mayonnaise, mustard and ketchup and blend well.
  • 11. To serve, divide the ketchup mixture evenly on the warmed hamburger buns, top with a meat patty, tomato slice, onion slice and shredded lettuce.
  • 12. Also good with alfalfa or radish sprouts.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use freshly ground beef chuck or sirloin. If you don't have a meat grinder, you can ask your butcher to grind it for you.
  • Season the beef patties generously with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Don't overwork the beef patties. Overworking the meat will make them tough.
  • Form the beef patties into 1-inch thick patties. Don't make them too thick, or they will not cook evenly.
  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. You can use a charcoal grill, a gas grill, or an electric grill.
  • Grill the burgers for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are cooked to your desired doneness.
  • Let the burgers rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help them retain their juices.
  • Serve the burgers on buns with your favorite toppings, such as cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Conclusion:

Grilled burgers are a classic American summertime meal. They are easy to make and can be customized to everyone's liking. With a little practice, you can grill the perfect burger every time.
