DUTCH APPLE CAKE
This is another great cake for the fall. When apples are plentiful and delicious there are so many ways to thank mother nature for its bounty. I pick a lot of the wild apples in the fall, and turn them into great desserts.

DUTCH APPLE CAKE WITH VANILLA SAUCE
I found this recipe in a magazine a long time ago (can't recall the name). It's very simple and absolutely delicious, especially when served warm with vanilla ice cream. I added a streusel topping for the "cobbler effect" which may be omitted, if you wish. My friends and family loved it. I hope you do, too!

Tips:
- Use a variety of apples for a more complex flavor. Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn are all good choices.
- If you don't have a Dutch oven, you can use a large baking dish instead. Just make sure it's at least 9 inches in diameter.
- Be sure to preheat your oven before baking the cake. This will help the cake rise evenly.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the cake tough.
- Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This usually takes about 45 minutes.
- Let the cake cool slightly before serving. This will help the vanilla sauce to set.
Conclusion:
Dutch apple cake is a classic dessert that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its moist, flavorful cake and creamy vanilla sauce, this cake is sure to be a hit. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give Dutch apple cake a try.
