SWISS STEAK QUICK AND EASY

Swiss Steak Quick and Easy image

My mother has been making this Swiss steak for years. It is wonderful, and can be made either on the stove top or -- when you don't have a lot of time but want a hearty meal ready when you come home -- in the crock pot. Serve over a bed of egg noodles or rice with a hunk of thick crusty bread.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef. Swiss steak is typically made with a tough cut of beef, such as flank steak or chuck roast. These cuts are less tender than other cuts, but they have a lot of flavor.
  • Marinate the beef. Marinating the beef helps to tenderize it and add flavor. You can use a simple marinade made with soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, and onion.
  • Brown the beef. Browning the beef helps to develop flavor and color. You can brown the beef in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Braise the beef. Braising is a cooking method that involves cooking the beef in a covered pot with a small amount of liquid. This helps to tenderize the beef and make it fall apart.
  • Serve the beef with gravy. Swiss steak is typically served with a gravy made from the braising liquid. You can also add vegetables, such as onions, carrots, and celery, to the gravy.

Conclusion:

Swiss steak is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and delicious. By following these tips, you can make a perfect Swiss steak that your family and friends will love.
