Time 33m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 large eggs
2 tablespoons whipping cream
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon (about) unsalted butter
10 slices bacon
2 (8-ounce) round loaves focaccia bread (7-inch diameter)
1 cup purchased pesto
8 ounces thinly sliced turkey
4 ounces thinly sliced provolone cheese

Steps:

  • Whisk the eggs, cream, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl until well blended. Heat a 6-inch-diameter nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Brush the skillet with some butter. Pour 1/4 cup of the egg mixture into the pan, swirling to coat the bottom of the pan evenly. Cover and cook until the egg crepe is just set, about 1 minute and 30 seconds. Invert the skillet over a plate, and allow the egg crepe to drop onto the plate. Repeat to make 4 crepes total, brushing the skillet with melted butter as needed and stacking crepes on the plate.
  • Cook the bacon in a heavy large frying pan until crisp. Transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain.
  • Preheat a griddle or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cut the focaccia horizontally in half. Place the focaccia cut side down on the griddle and cook until the focaccia is heated through and golden brown on the bottom, about 2 minutes. Spread the pesto over the toasted sides of each halved focaccia. Cover the bottom halves of the focaccia with the egg crepes, turkey, provolone and bacon, dividing equally. Cover with the top halves of focaccia, pesto side down. Cut the sandwich into bite-size wedges. Arrange the sandwiches on a platter and serve.

GRILLED ITALIAN SANDWICHES

Grilled Italian Sandwiches image

Provided by NeighborFood

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 sturdy loaf Italian bread
6 Tablespoons olive oil
5 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
Oregano
1/2 pound sliced ham
1/4 pound sliced salami
1/4 pound sliced pepperoni
12 slices Sargento provolone natural cheese slices
1/4 cup sliced yellow pepper rings
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
2 tomatoes, thinly sliced
Shredded lettuce
Salt and Pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the grill to medium high heat. I kept mine between 350 and 400 degrees.
  • Slice the loaf of bread into an even number of sandwich sized slices, slicing most but not all the way through, so that the loaf is still intact. I was able to get 12 slices out of mine.
  • Divide the loaf into sandwiches. Pull apart the center of each sandwich and brush it with olive oil and vinegar, then sprinkle with oregano. Stuff the middle of each sandwich with an even amount of ham, salami, pepperoni, banana peppers, onion, and cheese slices. Wrap the sandwich in foil. At this point, you can refrigerate until you're ready to eat, or place the sandwich on the hot grill and grill for 10-12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and meats are starting to crisp on the edges.
  • Carefully unwrap the loaf and use a knife to separate into 6 individual sandwiches. Finish with sliced tomato, lettuce, and the remaining olive oil and vinegar drizzled on top. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve.

ITALIAN GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches image

I invented these sandwiches to accompany canned minestrone soup, but they would be great with tomato soup as well. The bread grills nicely with the seasoned oil brushed on--a refreshing change from the traditional butter-grilled variety. The inside of the sandwich is gooey-cheesy with a bit of bite from the salami. Enjoy!

Time 15m

Yield 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 slices bread (your preference)
2 -3 tablespoons olive oil
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon oregano, dried
1/8 teaspoon black pepper, finely ground
4 slices provolone cheese
4 slices salami

Steps:

  • Heat a grill pan (or large skillet) over medium-high heat until good and hot.
  • Whisk olive oil, garlic powder, oregano and black pepper in a small bowl. With a pastry brush, brush oil mixture evenly over one side of each slice of bread.
  • Place 2 slices of bread on hot grill/skillet (oiled sides down). Quickly layer atop non-oiled side of bread slices: one slice of provolone, two slices of salami and one slice of provolone. (Note: If the provolone slices are wider than your bread slices, tear them to fit just inside the perimeter of the bread slices.) Top sandwiches with remaining slices of bread (oiled sides up).
  • Grill sandwiches until bottom slice of bread is browned (light or dark per your preference). With a large spatula, carefully turn each sandwich and brown the other side per your preference.
  • Remove from grill/skillet, allow to cool for 2 minutes. Slice diagonally and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the sandwich will be. Look for ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, and high-quality cheese.
  • Season the vegetables well: Grilled vegetables should be well-seasoned to bring out their flavor. Use a combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and olive oil.
  • Grill the vegetables over high heat: This will help them to cook quickly and evenly. If you don't have a grill, you can also use a grill pan or a cast iron skillet.
  • Use a sturdy bread that can hold up to the fillings: A ciabatta roll or a focaccia bread are both good choices.
  • Don't overload the sandwich: Too many fillings will make it difficult to eat and will prevent the flavors from blending together.
  • Serve the sandwich warm: Grilled Italian sandwiches are best served warm, so eat them right away or wrap them in foil and store them in a warm place until you're ready to eat them.

Conclusion:

Grilled Italian sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner. With a variety of fillings to choose from, there's sure to be a sandwich that everyone will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give grilled Italian sandwiches a try.
