EASY ITALIAN SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS

Easy Italian Sausage and Peppers image

My Mom made these often when I was growing up and I have always loved them! I think this is the most authentic and traditional way to make these.Traditional Sausage and Peppers do NOT have tomato sauce! We always ate them on Italian sub rolls with mustard but you could eat these alone with good crusty bread on the side. This serves 8 and can easily be scaled down or increased depending on how many you want to feed.

Tips:

  • Choose the right sausage: Italian sausage comes in a variety of flavors, from mild to spicy. Choose a sausage that you and your family will enjoy. If you're not sure what kind of sausage to get, ask your butcher for recommendations.
  • Slice the sausage thinly: Thinly sliced sausage will cook more evenly and will be easier to eat.
  • Use a variety of peppers: Bell peppers, hot peppers, and sweet peppers all add different flavors to the dish. Feel free to experiment with different types of peppers to find your favorite combination.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: If you overcrowd the pan, the sausage and peppers will steam instead of sautéing. This will result in a soggy dish.
