WINTERTIME FRENCH STYLE SPLIT PEA SOUP

Wintertime French Style Split Pea Soup image

A wonderful wintertime pea soup with turmeric, adding a nice bright, cheerful color to the soup. This recipe is versatile, can easily be doubled and more veggies and ham can be added as desired. It is a great way to use the rest of that spiral ham; just be sure to trim all the fat. Adjust water and stock as needed. Especially if reheating, more stock or water should be added. Serve with crusty bread and enjoy!

  • For a variation, substitute lentils for split peas.

NILE RIVER LENTIL SOUP

A very tasty vegetable soup from Egypt. I just hope that they aren't actually making soup with water from the Nile, lol.

Tips

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: The fresher the ingredients, the better the soup will taste. Look for fresh split peas, vegetables, and herbs at your local market.
  • Soak the Peas: Soaking the peas overnight will help them cook more evenly and reduce the cooking time.
  • Use a Variety of Vegetables: Don't be afraid to experiment with different vegetables in your soup. Some good options include carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, and tomatoes.
  • Add Spices and Herbs: Spices and herbs can add a lot of flavor to your soup. Some good options include cumin, coriander, paprika, thyme, and bay leaves.
  • Don't Overcook the Peas: Split peas can become mushy if they are overcooked. Be sure to taste them as they cook and remove them from the heat as soon as they are tender.

Conclusion

Exotic Nile River Split Pea Soup is a delicious and nutritious soup that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its unique blend of spices and herbs, this soup is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
