Number Of Ingredients 4

1 lemon (halved)
3 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 cups ice
1/2 cup water

Steps:

  • Squeeze the juice (or use a hand juicer) from the lemon into a quart sized mason jar, a shaker, or anything else you can fill and cover tightly. It just needs to be at least 16 oz. Toss one half of the lemon in with the juice.
  • Add the sugar
  • Fill the jar/cup/shaker with 1 1/2- 2 cups of ice. Basically, you just want to fill it up to the top.
  • Add enough water to cover the ice
  • Cover and shake briskly, until the sugar is mostly dissolved. It will actually turn into this wonderful, sweet "sludge" at the bottom of the cup. Drink straight from your shaker or pour into a glass. Just make sure you get all the sweet goodness out of the cup!
  • For a nice extra touch, serve in glasses with a sugared rim!

LEMON SHAKE-UP

Lemon Shake-Up image

A quick and easy lemon drink that is often sold at street festivals and the like. I like to make this at home for my daughter- takes up less space than a pitcher of lemonade in the refrigerator, and only a few minutes to make.

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/2 fresh lemon (or more, depending on your taste, size of lemon or how juicy it is)
12 ounces distilled water (may use tap water if you prefer that)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
ice cube (as needed)

Steps:

  • Place water in a covered shaker and squeeze lemon into it until it is completely juiced (you may like to cut the lemon pieces into quarters to do this as they are easier to handle, or use a reamer instead).
  • Pour the sugar into the shaker and add just a few ice cubes to agitate but do not overfill your shaker.
  • Affix the lid or cap and shake mixture until the sugar completely dissolves.
  • Pour lemon shake-up into a large serving glass (about a 24 oz size or larger) and add more ice to fill the glass as needed.
  • Drink up and be prepared to make more!

STATE FAIR LEMONADE

State Fair Lemonade image

I'm very excited to be showing you how to make real, authentic, vintage lemonade--the kind you might enjoy on a hot summer day at one of those stands at the state fair. Most of us make lemonade just out of lemon juice, but as you may know, the oils in the lemon peel contain a tremendous amount of flavor, and once you drink this, you won't want to go back to drinking it how you used to.

FAIR-STYLE LEMON SHAKE UPS

Fair-Style Lemon Shake Ups image

The State Fair food version of this recipe involves a lot of sugar, (1/2 cup per portion, perhaps?) This is cut down a bit and yet they are still sweet and juicy, with a syrup that infuses the whole drink with sweet lemonade flavor. Cooking time does not include chilling time. MEYER LEMON SHAKE-UP TARTS

Time 2h45m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

15 frozen phyllo tart shells, such as Athens, thawed
Nonstick cooking spray
1/2 cup granulated sugar, plus for sprinkling
2 large eggs plus 2 large yolks
2 Meyer lemons, zested and juiced (about 1/3 cup)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pats
Whipped cream, for garnish
Turbinado sugar, for garnish

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Spray the phyllo shells with cooking spray and sprinkle with 2 to 4 tablespoons sugar. Place the shells on a baking sheet and transfer to the oven. Bake until golden brown, 5 to 10 minutes. Set aside and let cool completely.
  • Meanwhile, whisk the eggs, yolks and the 1/2 cup sugar in a bowl until thick and fluffy. Add the lemon zest and juice, and stir to combine.
  • Add the egg mixture to a heavy saucepan; heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened, 10 to 15 minutes. Pour into a bowl set in an ice bath. Stir in the butter, one pat at a time, and continue stirring to cool down quickly (or chill in the refrigerator until cool to the touch, about 5 minutes).
  • Fill a pastry bag or heavy-duty plastic bag with a corner snipped off with the lemon curd filling. Pipe the filling into the cooled tart shells, then freeze for 1 hour. Garnish with a small dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle with turbinado sugar just before serving.

Tips for Making the Best Lemon Shake-Ups:

  • Use fresh lemons for the best flavor. Store-bought or bottled lemon juice just won't give the shake-ups the same tangy, refreshing zing as fresh-squeezed lemon juice can.
  • Chill your ingredients before making the shake-ups. This will help them blend together more smoothly and create a more refreshing drink.
  • To make a slushier version of the shake-up, freeze the lemonade cubes ahead of time. When you're ready to make the shake-up, simply add the frozen cubes to the blender with the other ingredients.
  • Garnish your shake-ups with a lemon wedge or twist for an extra pop of flavor and color.
  • For a unique twist, try adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt to the blender with the other ingredients. This will give the shake-up a creamy, indulgent texture.
  • Lemon shake-ups are a great way to use up leftover lemonade. If you have some lemonade that's about to go bad, simply freeze it in ice cube trays and use it to make shake-ups whenever you're craving a refreshing drink.

Conclusion:

Lemon shake-ups are a delicious, refreshing drink that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They're perfect for a hot summer day, a party, or a picnic. With just a few simple ingredients, you can easily make your own lemon shake-ups at home. So next time you're craving a refreshing drink, give lemon shake-ups a try.
