FARFALLE WITH CAULIFLOWER AND SAUSAGE

Farfalle With Cauliflower and Sausage image

This comes from the December 2008 issue of Cooking Light. I love the flavor of roasted cauliflower, so this sounded like a great and easy combination. Their recipe calls for mild turkey italian sausage, but I think this would be good with any italian sausage, mild or spicy.

Yield 10

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 (16 ounce) package farfalle (bow tie) pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound bulk Italian sausage
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 ½ cups chicken broth
⅛ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Bring to a boil over high heat, then add the broccoli rabe, and cover. Cook until the broccoli rabe is tender, about 4 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right pasta: Farfalle, also known as bow-tie pasta, is a great choice for this recipe because it holds the sauce well. However, you can use any type of short pasta, such as penne, rotini, or fusilli.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: This means cooking the pasta until it is just tender but still has a bit of a bite to it. Overcooked pasta will become mushy and won't hold the sauce as well.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the cauliflower and turkey sausage, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the vegetables from cooking evenly and will make it more difficult to get a good sear on the sausage.
  • Use a good quality marinara sauce: The marinara sauce is a key component of this dish, so make sure to use a good quality sauce. You can make your own marinara sauce or use a store-bought brand that you like.
  • Add some fresh herbs: Fresh herbs, such as basil, oregano, or thyme, can really brighten up the flavor of this dish. Add them at the end of cooking for the best flavor.

Conclusion:

This farfalle with cauliflower and turkey sausage is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It's packed with flavor and nutrition, and it's sure to be a hit with the whole family. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy pasta dish, give this one a try!
