Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 c all purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 c cold butter
1 egg
1 c vanilla yogurt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp milk
sugar, to sprinkle on top

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in egg, yogurt and vanilla just until combined.
  • 2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 6 to 8 times. Roll into a 9-inch circle; cut into eight wedges. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Brush tops with milk; sprinkle with sugar. Bake at 425F for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. 8 scones.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use cold butter. This will help to create flaky layers in the scones.
  • Do not overwork the dough. Overworking will result in tough scones.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk or buttermilk.
  • When cutting out the scones, use a sharp knife or biscuit cutter. This will help to create clean edges and prevent the scones from sticking together.
  • Bake the scones in a preheated oven. This will help to ensure that the scones rise evenly.
  • Serve the scones warm with your favorite toppings, such as butter, jam, or clotted cream.

Conclusion:

Scones are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. With a little practice, you can easily make perfect scones at home. Just remember to use fresh ingredients, follow the recipe carefully, and don't overwork the dough. Experiment with different flavors and toppings to create your own unique scones.
