- 2. Mix in the breadcrumbs and eggs.Add chopped fresh Sage to this mix. Form into a meatloaf shape and place in a vegetable sprayed dish.
- 3. Bake at 375 degrees for one hour. Remove from the oven and spread the reserved puree on top, then return it to the oven for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 4. Another way to serve is to slice the meatloaf into one inch slices and add to a skillet to crisp on both sides for an extra layer of texture.
Tips:
- Choose high-quality ground beef: Opt for a blend of 80/20 or 85/15 ground beef for a juicy and flavorful meatloaf. Avoid leaner ground beef as it can result in a dry meatloaf.
- Use fresh bread crumbs: Fresh bread crumbs provide a light and airy texture to the meatloaf. Avoid using store-bought bread crumbs as they can be too dry and dense.
- Add moisture: Incorporate moisture into the meatloaf mixture. This can be achieved by using ingredients like eggs, milk, or tomato sauce. Moisture prevents the meatloaf from becoming dry and crumbly.
- Season generously: Don't be afraid to season the meatloaf mixture generously. Use a combination of herbs, spices, and salt and pepper to create a flavorful dish.
- Don't overmix: Overworking the meatloaf mixture can result in a tough and dense texture. Mix the ingredients until they are just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Cook the meatloaf properly: Preheat the oven to the correct temperature and cook the meatloaf according to the recipe instructions. Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the internal temperature reaches 160°F for medium-rare, 165°F for medium, or 170°F for well-done.
