2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon celery seed
1 tablespoon ground chipotle pepper
1 teaspoon salt
2 pounds beef brisket, or more to taste
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
¼ cup apple cider vinegar
1 (14.5 ounce) can canned diced tomatoes
1 ½ cups water
2 bay leaves
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, or as needed

Tips:

  • Choosing the right cut of beef is crucial for a tender and flavorful brisket. Look for a brisket that is well-marbled with fat, as this will help keep the meat moist during cooking.
  • Trimming excess fat from the brisket before cooking is recommended to reduce greasiness. However, leaving a thin layer of fat on the meat will help retain moisture and flavor.
  • Seasoning the brisket generously with a flavorful rub is essential for adding taste and depth of flavor. Experiment with different spice combinations to create a rub that suits your preferences.
  • Browning the brisket in a skillet before slow cooking is an optional step that adds a nice caramelized crust to the meat and enhances its flavor.
  • Adding liquid to the slow cooker is necessary to prevent the brisket from drying out. Options for liquids include water, beef broth, or a combination of both. Adding vegetables like onions, carrots, and celery can also add flavor to the cooking liquid.
  • Cooking the brisket on low heat for an extended period is key to achieving fork-tenderness. Depending on the size of the brisket, cooking times can range from 8 to 12 hours.
  • Allowing the brisket to rest for at least 30 minutes before slicing is recommended. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful brisket.

Conclusion:

Slow-cooker brisket is a classic comfort food that is perfect for busy weeknights or special occasions. With its melt-in-your-mouth texture, rich flavor, and versatility, brisket is a dish that is sure to please everyone at the table. Whether you prefer a traditional Texas-style brisket or a more modern interpretation with bold spices and a tangy sauce, the slow cooker makes it easy to achieve perfect results every time. So, gather your ingredients, fire up your slow cooker, and let the magic begin!
