FOURTH OF JULY BEAN CASSEROLE (TASTE OF HOME)

Fourth of July Bean Casserole (Taste of Home) image

I have to say this is my favorite baked bean recipe so far. I didn't add the extra sugar or packed brown sugar or the molasses because I thought it was too sweet already. I threw in some spicy mustard to give it more of a kick, but I will post as written. The beef and bacon make plain pork and beans so much better.

Tips:

  • Soaking the beans overnight: This helps to soften the beans and reduce the cooking time. If you don't have time to soak the beans overnight, you can quick-soak them by boiling them for 1 minute, then removing them from the heat and letting them sit for 1 hour.
  • Using a variety of beans: This adds flavor and texture to the casserole. You can use any type of beans you like, but some good options include black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, and white beans.
  • Don't overcook the beans: They should be tender but still hold their shape. If you overcook them, they will become mushy.
  • Adding vegetables: Vegetables add flavor, color, and nutrients to the casserole. You can use any type of vegetables you like, but some good options include corn, bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes.
  • Using a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what brings all the flavors of the casserole together. You can use a variety of sauces, but some good options include a tomato-based sauce, a cheese sauce, or a sour cream-based sauce.
  • Baking the casserole: Baking the casserole helps to meld the flavors and create a crispy top. You can bake the casserole in a 9x13 inch baking dish at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30-35 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the top is golden brown.

Conclusion:

With its combination of beans, vegetables, and a flavorful sauce, this Fourth of July bean casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any summer gathering. It can be served as a main course or a side dish, and it is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
