Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 c uncooked bow tie pasta
8 c chopped cabbage
1 c chopped onion
6 Tbsp margarine
1/8 tsp pepper
1 lb kielbasa
for a healthier dish i use olive oil in place of the margarine & low fat kielbasa. you may want to add salt, but i try to limit sodium.

Steps:

  • 1. Cook bow tie pasta as directed on pkg. Drain, rinse with hot water. In large skillet, cook cabbage & onions in 4 tbsp of margarine for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring occassionally. Add pasta & remaining 2 tbsp. margarine; mix well. Place kielbasa on top of mixture. Cover; cook over low heat about 15-20 minutes or until kielbasa is hot & flavors have blended.

Tips:

  • Choose the right type of cabbage: Green cabbage is the most commonly used type of cabbage for fried cabbage pasta, but you can also use red cabbage or savoy cabbage. Red cabbage will give your pasta a beautiful purple hue, while savoy cabbage will add a slightly bitter flavor.
  • Shred the cabbage thinly: This will help it cook evenly and prevent it from becoming tough.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When frying the cabbage, make sure to do it in batches so that the cabbage can brown properly. If you overcrowd the pan, the cabbage will steam instead of fry.
  • Season the cabbage well: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all great seasonings for fried cabbage. You can also add other spices, such as cumin, paprika, or red pepper flakes, to taste.
  • Cook the cabbage until it is tender: The cabbage should be tender but still have a little bit of crunch to it. Overcooked cabbage will be mushy and bland.
  • Add the pasta: Once the cabbage is cooked, add the cooked pasta to the pan and stir to combine. You can also add other ingredients, such as cooked protein, vegetables, or cheese, at this point.
  • Serve immediately: Fried cabbage pasta is best served immediately, while it is still hot and fresh.

Conclusion:

Fried cabbage pasta is a quick, easy, and delicious meal that is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is a great way to use up leftover cabbage, and it is also a good way to get your daily dose of vegetables. With so many different variations to choose from, there is sure to be a fried cabbage pasta recipe that everyone will enjoy.
