Steps:
- In a large pot or deep frying pan heat about 2" to 3" oil over medium heat. There needs to be enough oil for the flowers to float on top, or they will stick to the bottom. Heat until oil is roughly 350°.
- In a med mixing bowl combine flour and salt. Make a hole in the middle of the flower and add in your egg white. Then whisk in your beer until mixture is almost smooth (some small lumps are ok-do not overwhisk or batter will deflate).
- One by one dredge the blossoms in the batter, shaking off the excess, and gently lay in the oil. Do not over crowd the pan. Cook, flipping once with a slotted spoon or tongs.
- When blooms are golden brown, 2-3 minutes total, remove and lay on a plate with a paper towel to soak up any extra oil.
- Serve and Enjoy! Best eaten when hot!

Fried Zucchini Flowers: A Culinary Delight
Fried zucchini flowers are a delectable delicacy that captivates taste buds with their symphony of flavors and textures. Their preparation requires careful attention to detail, from selecting the perfect blossoms to mastering the cooking technique. Here's a culinary guide to crafting this exquisite dish.
Preparation and Cooking Techniques
- Selecting the Flowers:
- Preparing the Flowers:
- Preparing the Batter:
- Cooking the Flowers:
Ensure the zucchini flowers are freshly picked, preferably on the same day of preparation. Seek out male blossoms, recognizable by their long, slender stems. These flowers offer a more pronounced taste and larger size compared to their female counterparts.
Gently rinse the flowers under cool water to remove any impurities, being cautious not to damage their fragile petals. Carefully remove the pistil and stamens from the center of each blossom, as they can impart a slightly astringent taste. If desired, stuff the flowers with a delectable mixture of ricotta cheese, herbs, or anchovies.
Craft a light and airy batter by combining all-purpose flower, cornstarch, salt, and freshly ground black peppers. In a separate bowl, whisk together sparkling water and an egg. Fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until a smooth, slightly thick mixture forms. Be mindful not to over-work the batter, as this may result in a tough texture.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Pour in a thin layer of oil, allowing it shimmer, but not smoke. Delicately coat each flower in the batter before carefully adding it to the skillet. Cook the flowers for a few minutes on each side, or until they achieve a golden-crisp texture. Drain the flowers on paper towels to absorb any grease.
