Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Drink Recipes     Cocktail Recipes

Yield 2 drinks

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 teaspoon lime zest
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons coarse salt
lime wedges for garnish
1 cup watermelon puree (see Cooks' Note)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup premium 100 percent agave tequila
2 tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier or triple sec)
1 cup ice

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the lime zest, water, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat, and cook, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat. Cool to room temperature. (Can be made in advance; keep in a covered container in the refrigerator.)
  • Chill a margarita glass in the freezer for 30 minutes. Place the coarse salt in a shallow dish or saucer. Wet the rim of the glass with a lime wedge and dip the glass into the salt, coating the top edge.
  • In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 tablespoons of the cooled lime syrup with the watermelon puree, lime juice, tequila, orange-flavored liqueur, and ice. Shake until frothy and well chilled, at least 1 minute. Strain into the prepared glass and garnish with a lime wedge.

Tips for Making Frosty Watermelon Margaritas

  • Choose a ripe watermelon. A ripe watermelon will be heavy for its size and have a deep red color. Avoid watermelons with bruises or soft spots.
  • Chill the watermelon and other ingredients before making the margaritas. This will help to make them extra refreshing.
  • Use fresh lime juice. Fresh lime juice will give the margaritas a bright, citrusy flavor. Avoid using bottled lime juice, as it can be bitter.
  • Don't overblend the margaritas. Overblending can make the margaritas icy and slushy. Blend them just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Serve the margaritas immediately. Margaritas are best enjoyed fresh. If you need to make them ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours before serving.

Conclusion

Frosty watermelon margaritas are a delicious and refreshing way to enjoy summer. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Whether you like them sweet, sour, or somewhere in between, there's a frosty watermelon margarita recipe out there for you. So next time you're looking for a cool and refreshing drink, give one of these recipes a try. You won't be disappointed!
