FRUIT SALSA WITH PINEAPPLE AND MANGO

Fruit Salsa With Pineapple and Mango image

This recipe is very good. Serve it with chips, on top of fish, or just as a side dish. The heat balances the sweet tartness and the grilling brings out the complexity of the onion, jalapeno, and tomato. I came up with this recipe after not finding one that incorporated all of the flavors that I love. I use a grill basket so I leave everything in large pieces. The recipe calls for fresh pineapple and mango but you can use frozen in a pinch. We love this recipe and hope that you will too.

PINEAPPLE, PAPAYA & MANGO SALSA

Pineapple, Papaya & Mango Salsa image

Obviously sweet because of the fruit but a slight hint of heat because of the pepper. We love this on grilled ahi, steamed uhu or aweoweo. I worked out this recipe after several failed attempts. We are blessed to live in Hawaii where fresh-off-the-tree fruit and great pineapples are easy to find, but try it anyway. As a variation, skip the pineapple and use chopped, seeded cucumber. Enjoy!

Time 8h20m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 8

3 slices fresh pineapple
1 red bell pepper
1 jalapeno pepper
2 large mangos - peeled, seeded, and diced
1 small red onion, diced
¼ cup chopped cilantro
1 lime, juiced
½ teaspoon lime zest

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat; lightly oil the grate.
  • Cook the pineapple, red bell pepper, and jalapeno pepper on the preheated grill, turning frequently, until the pineapple has mild grill marks and the peppers are browned on all sides, about 3 minutes for pineapple and 5 to 7 minutes for peppers. • After peppers are cool, rub skins off gently with paper towels, cut in half, and remove and discard seeds. Cut the cooled pineapple and peppers into a small dice and place into a bowl. Tips:

  • Choose ripe fruits: Use ripe pineapple and mango for the best flavor and texture. Ripe fruits are also sweeter, so you won't need to add as much sugar to the salsa.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs will give your salsa the best flavor. If you can't find fresh fruits, you can use frozen or canned fruits, but the flavor won't be as good.
  • Chop the fruits and vegetables into small pieces: This will make it easier to eat the salsa and will also help the flavors to blend together.
  • Add some heat: If you like spicy salsa, add a jalapeño or serrano pepper to the mix. You can also add some chili powder or cayenne pepper.
  • Let the salsa chill: After you've made the salsa, let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and will make the salsa even more delicious.

Conclusion:

Fruit salsa with pineapple and mango is a delicious and refreshing salsa that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like it spicy or mild, chunky or smooth, this salsa is sure to please everyone at your next party or gathering. So next time you're looking for a healthy and flavorful snack or appetizer, give this fruit salsa a try. You won't be disappointed!
