The dish has been on the menu since the first restaurant opened in 1982, and it has become so popular over the years that Olive Garden started selling the dressing in grocery stores in 2017. The secret to re-creating the texture at home: a few spoonfuls of Miracle Whip.

Gloria Pitzer's Olive Garden-Style Salad Dressing image

Gloria Pitzer is known for copying famous foods, but making them healthy at the same time. "I take the junk out of junk food," says Pitzer. "You know what goes into my recipes." Gloria is careful to point out that she doesn't actually know what the big chains put in their food. "I don't try to dissect the foods and figure out the chemical ingredients," she says. "I never, ever try to steal anyone's secret corporate recipe. I just do my best to duplicate the taste." Enjoy!

  • Use a variety of textures and flavors: To create a well-balanced salad, include a mix of soft and crunchy vegetables, as well as a variety of flavors, such as sweet, sour, salty, and bitter.
  • Don't overdress the salad: A little bit of dressing goes a long way, so be careful not to overdo it. You can always add more dressing if needed, but it's difficult to remove it once it's been added.
  • Serve the salad immediately: Garden olive salad is best when served immediately, as the vegetables will start to wilt if they sit for too long. If you need to make the salad ahead of time, store the dressed salad in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours.

With its vibrant colors, crisp textures, and flavorful dressing, this salad is sure to please everyone at your table.
