OMA'S MARZIPAN STOLLEN

Oma's Marzipan Stollen image

My German grandma made this stollen for us when we were young. I love its homey taste and how it reminds me of her and the German food she made. I often freeze this sweet bread once it's shaped into a braid. Then I can pull it out the night before, let it rise on the counter overnight, and bake it in the morning. -Abigail Leszczynski, Beauford, South Carolina

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients to ensure the best flavor. Organic and locally-sourced ingredients are ideal.
  • Make sure your yeast is active. If you're using instant yeast, you can add it directly to the flour mixture. If you're using active dry yeast, you'll need to proof it in warm water with a little sugar before adding it to the dough.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic. This will help develop the gluten and give the dough a chewy texture.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. This will give the yeast time to work and produce gas, which will make the bread light and airy.
  • Bake the bread in a preheated oven. This will help create a crispy crust and a fluffy interior.
  • Let the bread cool completely before slicing and serving. This will help the bread to hold its shape and prevent it from becoming crumbly.

Conclusion:

German Apple Stollen is a delicious and festive bread that is perfect for the holiday season. It is a time-consuming recipe, but it is well worth the effort. With its rich flavor and moist texture, this bread is sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
