Categories     Vegetable

Time 30m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 medium cabbage, shredded
1 green pepper, chopped
1 carrot, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 cup white sugar
1 cup vinegar
2 teaspoons celery seeds
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup oil

Steps:

  • boil sauce ingredients 5 minutes in pot.
  • pour over vegetables.
  • Chill.

Tips for Making German Coleslaw:

  • Use a sharp knife or mandoline to thinly slice the cabbage and carrots. This will help the coleslaw to absorb the dressing more evenly.
  • If you don't have a mandoline, you can use a food processor fitted with a slicing blade. Just be sure to pulse the cabbage and carrots in short bursts so that they don't become too mushy.
  • Soak the cabbage and carrots in cold water for at least 30 minutes before making the coleslaw. This will help to remove some of the bitterness from the cabbage.
  • Use a light, acidic dressing for the coleslaw. A simple vinaigrette made with vinegar, oil, and a touch of sugar is a good option.
  • Add some chopped herbs, such as parsley, dill, or chives, to the coleslaw for extra flavor.
  • Serve the coleslaw immediately or chill it for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

German coleslaw is a refreshing and flavorful side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its crunchy texture and tangy dressing, German coleslaw is sure to be a hit at your next gathering.
