Time 8h20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 3/4 lb slice fully cooked ham (about 1 inch thick)
1/2 c ginger ale
1/2 c orange juice
1/4 c firmly packed brown sugar
3 Tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp dry mustard
1 tsp vegetable oil
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/8 tsp ground cloves

Steps:

  • 1. Score the fat on the ham slice. Place the ham slice in a large shallow dish.
  • 2. Combine the ginger ale and remaining ingredients; stir well. Pour the marinade mixture over the ham slice. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for 8 hours, turning once.
  • 3. Remove the ham slice from the marinade, reserving the marinade.
  • 4. Grill, covered, over medium coals for 8 to 10 minutes on each side. Make sure your coals are not too hot!. Baste the ham slice frequently with the reserved marinade.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Select a fully cooked ham for easier preparation. Look for a ham with a bone-in or boneless, depending on your preference.
  • Prepare the glaze: Combine brown sugar, pineapple juice, ginger, and cloves in a saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar dissolves. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Score the ham: Use a sharp knife to make shallow diagonal cuts across the surface of the ham. This will help the glaze penetrate the ham and create a crispy crust.
  • Bake the ham: Place the ham in a baking dish and pour the glaze over it. Cover the ham with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 325°F (165°C) for 1 hour per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C). Remove the foil during the last 15 minutes of baking to allow the glaze to caramelize.
  • Let the ham rest: Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. This will allow the juices to redistribute throughout the ham, resulting in a more tender and flavorful meat.

Conclusion:

Gingering a ham is a simple but delicious way to add a touch of sweetness and spice to your holiday meal. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a flavorful and moist ham that will be a hit with your family and friends. So, next time you're looking for a new way to prepare ham, give this gingering recipe a try.
