FRENCH'S ORIGINAL GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE

French's Original Green Bean Casserole image

Make and share this French's Original Green Bean Casserole recipe from Food.com.

Provided by Sophaholic

Categories     Greens

Time 40m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 (9 ounce) packages frozen cut green beans
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
3/4 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 1/3 cups french's French fried onion rings

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except 2/3 c onion rings.
  • Pour into buttered casserole and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • Top with remaining onion rings and bake 5 minutes more or til onions are golden brown.
  • I'm going to try it with low fat cm of mush soup. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  • PS - The french fried onions are in the canned vegetable aisle!

Tips:

  • Choose tender green beans: Fresh or frozen green beans work best for this recipe. Avoid using canned green beans, as they can be mushy.
  • Blanch the green beans: Blanching the green beans helps to preserve their color and crispness. To blanch, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are tender-crisp. Drain the green beans and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process.
  • Use a good quality cheese: The type of cheese you use will greatly affect the flavor of the casserole. Use a sharp cheddar cheese for a bold flavor, or a milder cheese like Gruyère or Emmental for a more subtle flavor.
  • Don't overcook the casserole: The casserole should be cooked just until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Overcooking can make the green beans mushy and the casserole dry.
  • Serve immediately: Green bean casserole is best served immediately after it is made. The crispy onions will become soggy if the casserole sits for too long.

Conclusion:

Green bean casserole is a classic side dish that is perfect for any occasion. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With its creamy sauce, tender green beans, and crispy onions, green bean casserole is sure to be a hit at your next gathering.
