2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 c. ketchup
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. yellow mustard
1 tbsp. chili powder
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
4 tbsp. Butter, for bread

2/3 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon tomato paste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon grainy mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt

¼ cup ketchup
8 slices white bread
2 teaspoons butter, melted
¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350˚F (180˚C). Grease a 6-cup muffin tin with nonstick spray.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Add the onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes, until the onion is translucent. Add the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Add the ground beef and cook, breaking up with a wooden spoon, until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Tips:

  • For a gooey, melted cheese, use a good quality cheese that melts well, such as cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Swiss.
  • If you don't have a cast iron skillet, you can use a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet when cooking the sloppy joe mixture. Cook it in batches if necessary.
  • Use a sturdy bun that can hold up to the sloppy joe mixture. A hoagie bun or a slider bun works well.
  • Add your favorite toppings to the sloppy joes, such as pickles, onions, or jalapeños.

Conclusion:

Grilled cheese sloppy joes are a fun and easy meal that the whole family will love. They're perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a fun weekend lunch. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a delicious and satisfying meal that everyone will enjoy.
