HAM AND POTATOES AU GRATIN
This is one of the dishes Grandma served to our family during the holidays. Now, when the family gathers and I prepare this for my grandchildren, memories of those special times at Grandma's house fill my mind. I usually double this recipe, because the leftovers are fabulous when warmed in the microwave.

Comes from Cooking Light -- July 2007 issue, however I've modified it slightly. Swiss can be substituted however it will not be quite as rich. To obtain uniformly thin potato slices use a food processor or a mandoline.

Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make your gratin even more delicious. Opt for a good-quality ham and cheddar cheese, and use creamy potatoes for a smooth, rich texture.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: Make sure to leave some space between the potato slices so that they can cook evenly and get crispy on the edges.
- Bake the gratin until it's golden brown and bubbly: This will ensure that the potatoes are cooked through and that the cheese is melted and gooey.
- Let the gratin rest for a few minutes before serving: This will help it to set and make it easier to slice.
Conclusion:
Ham, cheddar, and potato gratin is a classic comfort food dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make, delicious, and always a crowd-pleaser. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give this recipe a try.
