HOT HAMBURGER DIP

Hot Hamburger Dip image

My Mom used to make this dip sometimes for her bridge club on Saturday nights. I would love eating the leftovers on Sunday :-) It may not look too appetizing, but trust me, it tastes great!! This dip was created before crock pots and microwaves were popular (just the good ol' stove and oven)

Provided by Cathie Valentine

Categories     Meat Appetizers

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 c onion,chopped
8 oz tomato sauce
1/4 c ketchup
8 oz cream cheese
1/4 c grated parmesan cheese
1 clove minced garlic
1 tsp oregano, dried
1 tsp sugar
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Saute beef until browned. Drain drippings. Add onion and cook until tender. Add remaining ingredients and stir over low heat until the cheese melts. Keep warm and serve with corn chips or other chips. (remember, it may not look too appetizing, but trust me, it tastes delicious)

Tips:

  • Prep Ahead: Make the hamburger dip a day ahead to allow the flavors to meld. It will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Choose the Right Ground Beef: Opt for a lean ground beef, such as 80/20, to ensure the dip is not too greasy.
  • Don't Overcook the Beef: Cook the ground beef until it is just browned, as overcooking will make it tough.
  • Add Veggies for Extra Nutrition: Feel free to incorporate chopped onions, peppers, or mushrooms into the dip for an extra boost of flavor and nutrients.
  • Use a Variety of Cheeses: Experiment with different types of cheeses to create a unique flavor profile. A combination of cheddar, mozzarella, and cream cheese works well.
  • Don't Skimp on the Spices: Use a generous amount of spices, such as garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, to enhance the flavor of the dip.
  • Use a Slow Cooker for Easy Preparation: If you have a slow cooker, you can cook the hamburger dip on low for 6-8 hours. This is a great option for busy weeknights.

Conclusion:

Hamburger dip is a versatile and crowd-pleasing appetizer or main course that can be enjoyed with a variety of dippers, such as chips, crackers, or vegetables. With its simple ingredients and customizable flavor profile, it's a perfect dish for any occasion. Whether you're hosting a party or just looking for a quick and easy meal, hamburger dip is sure to be a hit. So next time you're craving a hearty and flavorful dip, give this recipe a try!
