Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 1/2 lb hamburger
1/2 c chopped onion
1/2 c green pepper
1/2 c italian bread crumbs
1/2 c parmesan cheese
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp thyme, dried
1 tsp oregano, dried
3-4 small zucchini
3-4 tomatoes, overripe or 1 can diced tomatoes
2 refrigerated pie crust
1 Tbsp milk
coarse grind black pepper for sprinkling

Steps:

  • 1. Brown hamburger and add onion and pepper. Cook until tender.
  • 2. Add garlic salt, thyme, oregano, bread crumbs and cheese.
  • 3. Place pie crust in pie plate and layer sliced zucchini, meat mixture, tomatoes and repeat another layer.
  • 4. Place top crust over the top and brush top of crust lightly with milk and sprinkle with coarse black pepper.
  • 5. Bake at 350 for 30-45 min or until crust is browned.

Tips:

  • Use fresh, high-quality zucchini. This will ensure that your pie has the best possible flavor and texture.
  • Grate the zucchini coarsely. This will help it to cook evenly and prevent it from becoming too mushy.
  • Add plenty of seasonings to the zucchini mixture. This will help to bring out its flavor and make the pie more interesting.
  • Don't overcook the zucchini mixture. It should be tender but still slightly crunchy.
  • Use a good quality pie crust. You can use a store-bought pie crust or make your own. If you're using a store-bought crust, be sure to pre-bake it according to the package directions.
  • Fill the pie crust with the zucchini mixture and top it with cheese. You can use any type of cheese you like, but a sharp cheddar or mozzarella cheese is a good choice.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. This will usually take about 30 minutes.
  • Let the pie cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This will help the filling to set.

Conclusion:

Hamburger zucchini pie is a delicious and easy-to-make meal that is perfect for any occasion. It is a great way to use up leftover zucchini and it is also a good source of vegetables. The pie can be served as a main course or as a side dish. It is also a good option for a potluck or picnic.
