Time 30m

Yield 4 servings (1 turnover per serving)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 Package (13.8 oz.) refrigerated pizza crust dough
1/2 cup Heinz 57®
1/2 cup Prepared spinach dip
2 cups Frozen cooked fajita-style chicken strips, thawed and chopped
1/2 cup Chopped red bell pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Coat a large baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Sprinkle work surface with a pinch of flour or cornmeal to prevent dough from sticking if desired. Unroll dough onto work surface and cut into 4 pieces.
  • In a small bowl, mix together Heinz 57® and spinach dip until smooth. Spread about 1/4 cup of Sauce mixture evenly on each piece of dough, leaving 1/2-in. around the edge. Arrange 1/2 cup of chicken and 2 Tbsp. of pepper onto one half of a dough piece. Gently fold dough over the filling to form a triangle shape. Seal the edges by crimping with fingertips or with a fork. Cut 1 or 2 slits on top of crust. Repeat with remaining dough pieces. Transfer turnovers to baking sheet and lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve immediately.
  • TIP: If desired, add your favorite vegetables such as chopped tomatoes, sliced onions, roasted peppers or sliced mushrooms, to the filling.

HEINZ 57® COPYCAT

Heinz 57® Copycat image

Someone left the bottle empty in the fridge (well, just a few drops is the same as empty). I had just enough to copy it, then when I brought a sample to my unsuspecting taste-tester, he liked mine better than the original! I washed my Heinz 57® bottle, multiplied this recipe to fill 'er up, and haven't bought another name brand since. Hope you like it!

This recipe was on the back of a bottle of Heinz 57 Sauce years ago and I lost the recipe. It recently popped back up in an Ore Ida ad for their grillers. The chicken is so easy and tastes so good, so I'm putting it in Food.com for safe keeping.

Tips:

  • For the best flavor, use a high-quality ketchup. Look for one that is made with real tomatoes and spices.
  • If you don't have any Worcestershire sauce, you can substitute soy sauce or hoisin sauce.
  • To make the chicken extra crispy, dredge it in flour before frying.
  • Be careful not to overcrowd the pan when frying the chicken. This will cause the chicken to steam instead of fry.
  • If you are using a cast iron skillet, make sure it is well-seasoned before cooking the chicken.
  • Serve the chicken with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, or coleslaw.

Conclusion:

Heinz 57 chicken is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great way to use up leftover chicken.
