Yield Makes 1 cup

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chervil
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh tarragon
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh chives
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1/2 teaspoon finely chopped fresh thyme
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 medium shallots, finely chopped
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 teaspoon coarse salt

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine butter, chervil, tarragon, chives, parsley, thyme, garlic, shallots, pepper, and salt. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  • Transfer butter mixture to a piece of plastic wrap. Roll up to form a cylinder, twisting ends of plastic wrap to seal. Refrigerate until firm, at least 1 hour and up to 1 week.

Tips:

  • Choose the right butter: Use unsalted butter for the best flavor control and texture.
  • Soften the butter: Let the butter come to room temperature before mixing it with the herbs. This will make it easier to blend and create a smooth, creamy mixture.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs will give your butter the best flavor. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but be sure to use half the amount of dried herbs as you would fresh.
  • Chop the herbs finely: Finely chopped herbs will distribute evenly throughout the butter and give you a more consistent flavor.
  • Season to taste: Once you've mixed the butter and herbs, taste it and adjust the seasoning as needed. You may want to add more salt, pepper, or lemon juice to taste.
  • Let the butter chill: After you've mixed the butter and herbs, transfer it to a covered container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before using. This will allow the flavors to meld and develop.

Conclusion:

Herb butter is a delicious and versatile condiment that can be used to enhance the flavor of a variety of dishes. It's perfect for grilled or roasted meats, vegetables, and fish. You can also use it to add flavor to sandwiches, burgers, and pasta dishes. With so many different herb combinations to choose from, you're sure to find a herb butter that you love.
