Time 30m

Yield 10-12 rolls, 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup herman starter, twice-fed
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup light brown sugar (I use dark brown)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup pecans (or other nuts)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 and grease a pie or round cake pan.
  • Mix together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, 1/4 c brown sugar, oil, & Herman.
  • Place on floured surface and knead lightly.
  • Shape into rolls and place in greased pie or cake pan.
  • Stir together the other 1/4 c brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, and nuts to make the topping. Sprinkle over rolls. Bake 15-20 minutes or until brown.

Tips:

  • Proof the yeast: Before starting the recipe, ensure the yeast is active and alive. Proof the yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar for 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh milk, eggs, and butter will result in the best-tasting cinnamon rolls. Room temperature ingredients also incorporate more easily into the dough.
  • Don't overwork the dough: Mix the dough just until it comes together. Overworking the dough will make it tough.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place: The dough should double in size, which typically takes about 1-2 hours. A warm place, like a turned-off oven with the light on, will help the dough rise faster.
  • Roll the dough out evenly: When rolling out the dough, make sure it is an even thickness throughout. This will help ensure that the cinnamon rolls bake evenly.
  • Spread the cinnamon sugar evenly: Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough. If the cinnamon sugar is not evenly distributed, some cinnamon rolls will be more flavorful than others.
  • Cut the cinnamon rolls evenly: Use a sharp knife to cut the cinnamon rolls into even slices. This will help them bake evenly and look more uniform.
  • Bake the cinnamon rolls at the right temperature: Bake the cinnamon rolls at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown. If the oven is too hot, the cinnamon rolls will brown too quickly and the insides may be undercooked.
  • Let the cinnamon rolls cool slightly before frosting: Allow the cinnamon rolls to cool for a few minutes before frosting them. This will help prevent the frosting from melting.

Conclusion:

These cinnamon rolls are a delicious and indulgent treat that is perfect for any occasion. With a few simple tips, you can make sure that your cinnamon rolls turn out perfect every time. So next time you're looking for a sweet and satisfying snack, give these cinnamon rolls a try.
