HOLIDAY MEATBALLS

HOLIDAY MEATBALLS image

Samples were being given out at the grocery store. The lady had run out of the recipes cards so I wrote down on the back of my grocery list.

Provided by Chris VanDusen

Categories     Meat Appetizers

Time 4h10m

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 pkg italian meatballs, frozen cocktail size 28 oz bag
1 can(s) whole berry cranberry sauce, 16 oz
1 c barbecue sauce, i used sweet baby ray's

Steps:

  • 1. Place frozen meatballs in slow cooker sprayed with cooking spray.
  • 2. In a bowl, mix together cranberry sauce and barbecue sauce. Pour over meatballs.
  • 3. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 2-3 hours. Turn to warm setting to serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the right meat: A combination of ground beef, pork, and veal is classic, but you can also use lamb, turkey, or chicken. If you're using a leaner meat, add some fat, like bacon or butter, to keep the meatballs moist.
  • Use fresh bread crumbs: Stale bread crumbs will make your meatballs tough. To make your own, simply pulse fresh bread in a food processor until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Don't overmix the meatball mixture: Overmixing will make the meatballs tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Form the meatballs into uniform balls: This will help them cook evenly. Use a tablespoon or small ice cream scoop to measure out the mixture, then roll it between your palms to form a ball.
  • Brown the meatballs before simmering them: This will give them a nice crust and help keep them moist. Brown the meatballs in a large skillet over medium heat until they are browned on all sides.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what really makes the meatballs. Choose a sauce that you love and that will complement the flavors of the meatballs.
  • Cook the meatballs until they are cooked through: Meatballs should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.

Conclusion:

Meatballs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be served as an appetizer, main course, or side dish. They can be made with a variety of meats, sauces, and spices, so there's sure to be a recipe that everyone will enjoy. With a little planning and preparation, you can easily make delicious meatballs at home.
