Time 5m

Yield 6-8 cups

Number Of Ingredients 3

1/3 cup popcorn
2 -3 tablespoons melted butter
salt

Steps:

  • Pour kernels into a small paper bag (standard lunch size is fine) and fold the top of the bag over twice to close (each fold should be 1/2 inch deep; remember the kernals need room to pop).
  • Seal the bag with 2 staples placed 2 to 3 inches apart. (Editor's Note: Using metal staples in a microwave can be hazardous, please consider an alternate method).
  • Place bag in microwave on carousel. Cook on high 2-3 minutes, or until the pops are 5 seconds apart. Pour in melted butter and salt and shake the bag to distribute.

Time 7m

Yield 1-2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 4

1/4 cup popcorn, kernels
1 1/2 tablespoons butter, softened at room temperature
1/4 teaspoon olive oil
salt, to taste

Steps:

  • Pour popcorn in a paper lunch sack.
  • Add oil and butter.
  • Fold the top of the bag over twice (approximately 3/4" folds).
  • Shake to distribute the oil.
  • Place on its side on a microwave safe plate.
  • Microwave on the popcorn setting (or set for 5 minutes and remove when there is 3 seconds between pops).
  • Plate will be hot - use a potholder to remove it from the microwave.
  • Open carefully because of steam and hot buttery spots on bag. Add salt to taste.

Tips:

  • Choose the right popcorn kernels: Use fresh, non-GMO popcorn kernels for the best results.
  • Use a brown paper bag: Brown paper bags are ideal for making popcorn in the microwave because they allow steam to escape and prevent the popcorn from becoming soggy.
  • Don't overcrowd the bag: Fill the bag no more than halfway with popcorn kernels to ensure that the popcorn has enough space to pop.
  • Microwave in short bursts: Microwave the popcorn in short bursts of 30 seconds to 1 minute, shaking the bag in between each burst. This will help prevent the popcorn from burning.
  • Listen for the popping to slow down: Once the popping slows down to a few seconds between pops, stop microwaving the popcorn to prevent burning.
  • Season the popcorn: Once the popcorn is popped, season it to your liking with salt, butter, or other seasonings.

Conclusion:

Making popcorn in the microwave is a quick and easy snack that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. By following these tips, you can make perfect popcorn every time. So next time you're craving a crunchy snack, reach for some popcorn kernels and your microwave, and enjoy a delicious and healthy treat.
