HONEY GLAZED HAM

Honey Glazed Ham image

This ham tastes very much like the famous honey baked ham but costs much less, and there's no need to fight the crowds at holiday time. You can even buy the ham presliced to make it easier and more like the original. It is very good. (I do this while preparing the rest of the meal in the kitchen so that I don't forget to baste!)

1 10-pound bone-in smoked ham (with water added)
1 1/2 cups packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup clover honey

Time 2h50m

Yield 16

Number Of Ingredients 11

¾ cup water, or as needed
2 whole star anise
12 whole cloves, or more to taste
1 (7 pound) country-style ham
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
¼ cup honey
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 ½ teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 pinch cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).

BAKED HONEY-GLAZED HAM

Baked Honey-Glazed Ham image

You'll never have another salty, dry ham again! I use this recipe every Christmas and Easter and get a pretty, moist, and succulent ham every time.

Provided by PittsburghGal

Categories     Ham

Time 4h20m

Yield 4-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

smoked ham
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 cup brown sugar
1 whole clove
pineapple ring
maraschino cherry
1 cup white wine (slightly sweet)
1 cup ginger ale
1/2 cup honey

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 250 or if pressed for time 300.
  • Remove the rind from the ham and most of the fat if there in a lot. I always score the ham - cut it diagonally so you get the pretty diamonds. Put a clove in the center of each diamond. Place ham in a baking pan lined with aluminum foil - eliminates that nasty clean up later.
  • In a small bowl, combine mustard, brown sugar and honey. Pour glaze over the ham and press into the cuts. Using toothpicks, secure slices of pineapple to the ham with a cherry in the middle of each ring.
  • Bake the ham from 4 hours to all day. Baste every 30 minute with equal parts wine and ginger ale, or ginger ale only. Later in the cooking process use the pan juices for basting.
  • Remove from the oven and let ham stand for 30 minutes before carving. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: For a crowd-size ham, select a fully cooked bone-in or boneless ham weighing between 10 and 12 pounds.
  • Score the ham: Use a sharp knife to score the ham in a diamond pattern, cutting about 1/4 inch deep. This helps the glaze penetrate the ham and creates a crispy crust.
  • Make the honey glaze: Combine honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, orange juice, and ground cloves in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Glaze the ham: Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Place the ham in a roasting pan and brush with the honey glaze. Cover the ham with foil and bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
  • Remove the foil and continue baking: Uncover the ham and brush with the remaining glaze. Continue baking for 30 to 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Let the ham rest: Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Conclusion:

This honey-glazed baked ham is a perfect centerpiece for any special occasion. It's easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and savory glaze, tender and juicy meat, this ham is sure to be a hit with everyone at the table. So, gather your ingredients, preheat your oven, and get ready to enjoy this delicious dish!
