I got this recipe off the Food Network. I made up a batch for a Christmas party. We stat outside around the fire pit and sipped on the cider--Every one loved it. What makes this really nice is your guests can make it with or without the bourbon, and adjust the other ingredients as well. I put the hot cider in a thermos carafe with a pump on it, and placed the cinnamon sticks, spiced butter, rum-flavored whipped cream, and seasoned graham crackers out for them to help themselves for refills.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use a variety of apples that are good for cooking, such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Pink Lady.
  • Use fresh spices: Freshly ground spices will give your cider toddy the best flavor. If you don't have fresh spices, you can use dried spices, but use half the amount.
  • Don't boil the cider: Boiling the cider will evaporate the alcohol and ruin the flavor. Heat it gently over low heat until it is just steaming.
  • Add the alcohol last: Add the rum, whiskey, or brandy to the cider after you have removed it from the heat. This will help to preserve the flavor of the alcohol.
  • Serve hot: Serve the cider toddy hot, in a mug or heatproof glass.

Conclusion:

A hot apple cider toddy is the perfect drink to enjoy on a cold winter night. It is warm, comforting, and flavorful. With just a few simple ingredients, you can make a delicious cider toddy that will warm you up from the inside out. So next time you are looking for a warm and comforting drink, give a hot apple cider toddy a try.
