Magically making its own fudge sauce this cake will become one of your favorite last-minute desserts. Serve it with ice cream for an extra special treat. Note: if you use a dutch process cocoa you will have a richer, darker result. TIP: some reviewers have recommended "baking" this in a crockpot on High for about 2 1/2 hours and then letting it cool slightly before serving. Thanks for the tip!

Tips:

  • To achieve a rich and decadent fudge cake, use high-quality cocoa powder. Look for brands that have a deep, dark color and a strong chocolate aroma.
  • Do not overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake. Stir the ingredients until just combined.
  • For a moist and fluffy cake, use buttermilk or sour cream in the batter. These ingredients help to tenderize the cake and give it a light, airy texture.
  • Do not overcook the cake. The center of the cake should be slightly moist when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting it. This will help to prevent the frosting from melting and running off the cake.
  • For a smooth and creamy fudge frosting, use high-quality chocolate chips. Avoid using chocolate chips that contain vegetable oils, as these can cause the frosting to be grainy.
  • If you do not have a double boiler, you can melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat on high power for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the chocolate chips are melted and smooth.

Conclusion:

This hot fudge cake recipe is sure to be a hit with chocolate lovers of all ages. With its moist and fluffy texture, rich chocolate flavor, and decadent fudge frosting, this cake is perfect for any special occasion. Whether you are serving it for a birthday party, a holiday gathering, or just a simple weeknight dessert, this cake is sure to please everyone.
