4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Salt and pepper
1 cup honey
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup diced onion
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (could also use olive oil or canola oil)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional - doesn't really add heat, just adds more flavor)
4 teaspoons cornstarch dissolved in 6 Tablespoons water
Sesame seeds

Steps:

  • Place your chicken in the bottom of the Instant Pot.
  • In a small bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, onion, ketchup, oil, garlic and pepper flakes. Pour over chicken and put your Instant Pot Lid on and seal.
  • Cook on the Meat setting for 20 minutes and then quick release once the 20 minutes is up. Remove chicken from pot, leave sauce.
  • Dissolve 4 teaspoons of cornstarch in 6 tablespoons of water in a small bowl and pour into your Instant Pot. Stir to combine with sauce. Push the Saute button and cook sauce for about 5 minutes or until slightly thickened.
  • Cut the chicken into bite size pieces, then return to pot and toss with sauce before serving. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve over rice or noodles.
  • You can also sprinkle more red pepper flakes on top if you want more heat.
  • I removed my Honey Sesame Chicken from the Instant Pot and put in a bowl and cooked my rice in my Instant Pot.
  • To make rice in your Instant Pot you need to have the same ratio rice as you do water.
  • I used 2 cups of Brown Jasmine Rice.
  • To make it: Rinse and drain 2 cups of rice and dump it into your Instant Pot. Add 2 cups of water. Seal your instant pot with the lid and push the Rice button. It will cook for 10 minutes then quick release. You will have PERFECT rice!

3 Tablespoons cornstarch (divided)

1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless, chicken breasts (could also use chicken thighs)
2 Tablespoons sesame oil (divided)
6 Tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
2 1/2 Tablespoons ketchup
Pinch red pepper flakes
6 Tablespoons honey
3 Tablespoons water
1 Tablespoon sesame seeds

Steps:

  • In a gallon-sized resealable bag, mix together 2 Tablespoons cornstarch with salt and pepper.
  • Add in chicken pieces to bag, seal, and shake until chicken is completely coated with cornstarch (if you need to add more cornstarch to make sure all chicken is covered, feel free).
  • Plug in your Instant Pot and push "saute" button. Add in 1 1/2 Tablespoons of sesame oil to the Instant Pot and let it heat up.
  • Once the oil is hot, add in the coated chicken pieces. Saute for 3-4 minutes or until all sides of the chicken start to turn golden-brown.
  • In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, ketchup, red pepper flakes. Pour over chicken pieces. Stir gently so that all the chicken pieces are covered in sauce.
  • Place lid on Instant Pot and seal. Make sure that your valve is in the "seal" position and not the "vent" position.

  • In another small bowl, mix together water with the remaining cornstarch. Pour in with the chicken, and gently stir to cover chicken. Push the "saute" button again and let the sauce thicken (should only take 2-3 minutes).
