Japanese Steakhouse White Sauce - Chuck's Easy Recipe
1-1/4 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise *
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon melted butter
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon paprika
dash cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Using a fork or a whisk, blend all ingredients together thoroughly until well mixed and the sauce is smooth. Refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to blend. Bring to room temperature before serving. The sauce will NOT taste right if you don't let it sit overnight. And please don't try to substitute ketchup for the tomato paste! The water is needed to bring this to the right consistency. I don't know how long this keeps in the refrigerator; I've kept it 7-10 days, but I always wind up eating it all before 10 days so after that - anyone's guess. * Hellmann's is called "Best Foods" west of the Rockie Mountains. Use other mayos at your peril - many cheap brands make the sauce taste too much like mayo.

Tips:

  • For a classic Yum Yum sauce, it's essential to achieve the right balance of flavors. Make sure to use equal parts mayonnaise and ketchup as the base.
  • Fresh ingredients can make a big difference in the taste of your sauce. Use freshly grated ginger and garlic for the best flavor.
  • If you want a bit of a spicy kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or Sriracha sauce to taste.
  • Feel free to experiment with different herbs and spices to create your own unique Yum Yum sauce flavor profile. Some popular additions include paprika, onion powder, or garlic powder.
  • For a healthier version of Yum Yum sauce, try using Greek yogurt or avocado instead of mayonnaise.

Conclusion:

With its creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet flavor, Yum Yum sauce has become a beloved condiment in Japanese steakhouses and beyond. Whether you're enjoying it with grilled meats, seafood, or even as a dip for vegetables, this versatile sauce is sure to please. Its simple yet delicious flavor profile makes it a perfect complement to a wide variety of dishes. So next time you're looking for a flavorful and easy-to-make sauce, give Yum Yum sauce a try – you won't be disappointed!
