Jazzed Up Beans & Weiners with Fried Potatoes image

This is a simple, no fuss meal that starts with inexpensive, commonly found ingredients. This dish is popular with kids, and yet it satisfies the "meat and potatoes" man. You can also use canned sliced potatoes, which cuts down the cooking time quite considerably, but I prefer to use fresh. Make extra potatoes to heat up for breakfast with your eggs...yummy!!

HOW TO MAKE CANNED REFRIED BEANS TASTE BETTER

How to Make Canned Refried Beans Taste Better image

Provided by Katie Clark

Categories     Mexican

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 tbsp butter
1/2 cup white onion, diced
Sauté until translucent
Add garlic over medium heat. Cook until Fragrant
Add 1 can (16 oz) refined beans
1/4 cup half and half
1/4 cup sour cream
Salt
Pepper
Cumin
Cheese

Steps:

  • Melt butter in a skillet.
  • Add onion and saute until translucent. Add garlic and cook until fragrant over low heat.
  • Add refried beans, break up and combine with butter, onion, and garlic.
  • Add half and half, stir.
  • Add sour cream
  • Season with salt, pepper and cumin to taste (I used 1 teaspoon of each).
  • Add cheese.

Tips:

  • Use dried beans for a more flavorful dish. Dried beans have a more concentrated flavor than canned beans, and they're also cheaper. If you're using dried beans, be sure to soak them overnight before cooking.
  • Add aromatics to the pot. Aromatics, such as onions, garlic, and celery, add depth of flavor to the beans. Sauté them in a little oil before adding the beans and water.
  • Season the beans with salt, pepper, and other spices. Salt and pepper are essential seasonings for beans, but you can also add other spices to taste. Some popular options include chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika.
  • Cook the beans until they're tender. The cooking time will vary depending on the type of beans you're using. Check the package directions for specific instructions.
  • Serve the beans with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings for beans include sour cream, salsa, guacamole, and cheese.

Conclusion:

Jazzing up a pot of plain beans is a great way to create a delicious and satisfying meal. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can transform ordinary beans into a flavorful and nutritious dish. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give one of these jazzed-up bean recipes a try. You won't be disappointed!
