Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of meat: Jerk seasoning is best suited for tougher cuts of meat, such as chicken thighs, pork shoulder, and flank steak. These cuts will benefit from the long marinating time and will become tender and flavorful when cooked.
  • Use a flavorful marinade: The marinade is what gives jerk chicken its signature flavor. Be sure to use a marinade that contains plenty of spices, herbs, and citrus. Some common ingredients in jerk marinades include allspice, thyme, ginger, garlic, and scotch bonnet peppers.
  • Marinate the meat for at least 24 hours: The longer you marinate the meat, the more flavorful it will be. If you don't have time to marinate the meat for that long, you can still get good results by marinating it for at least 4 hours.
  • Cook the meat over indirect heat: Jerk chicken is traditionally cooked over indirect heat, which helps to keep the meat moist and prevents it from burning. You can cook jerk chicken on a grill, in a smoker, or in the oven.
  • Serve with your favorite sides: Jerk chicken is a versatile dish that can be served with a variety of sides. Some popular choices include rice and peas, coleslaw, and fried plantains.
