Jesse and Steve's Fresh Strawberry Cake image

This moist, not-too-sweet strawberry cake is covered with tart lemon icing and sprinkled with toasted slivered almonds. I served it after dinner with fresh coffee, and it my friends went wild for it. I like to use turbinado (raw) sugar because it is more flavorful and less processed than white sugar, but white sugar should work fine, too.

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start baking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and tools ready to go. This will help you stay organized and avoid any scrambling.
  • Use fresh strawberries: Fresh strawberries will give your cake the best flavor. If you can't find fresh strawberries, you can use frozen strawberries that have been thawed and drained.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the cake tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This is the best way to ensure that the cake is cooked through.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it: This will help the frosting to set properly.

Conclusion:

This fresh strawberry cake is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its moist and fluffy cake layers, sweet and tangy strawberry filling, and creamy vanilla frosting, this cake is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it. So next time you're looking for a special dessert to make, give this fresh strawberry cake a try. You won't be disappointed!
