BAKED SPAGHETTI
Dora Charles-my head cook, my soul sister, and my friend-really puts her big toe in this dish. In fact, Fodor's Travel Guide called it "The Best Baked Spaghetti in the South." Go, Dora! (P.S. Dora doesn't really put her toe in this, that's just a Southern expression we use when someone has done a dish just right!)

Steps:
- To make the sauce, in a stockpot, combine the tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, onions, peppers, garlic, parsley, seasoning mixtures, sugar, and bay leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 1 hour. Crumble the ground beef in a saucepan. Cook until no pink remains, then drain off the fat. Add the ground beef to the stockpot. Simmer for another 20 minutes. While the sauce simmers, cook the pasta according to the package directions. Cover the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan with sauce. Add a layer of pasta, then half of the cheese; repeat the layers, ending with the sauce. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Top with the remaining cheese, return to the oven, and continue to cook until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Cut into squares before serving.
Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, high-quality ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your baked spaghetti. Look for ripe tomatoes, fresh herbs, and a good quality cheese.
- Don't overcook the pasta: The pasta should be cooked al dente, or slightly firm to the bite. Overcooked pasta will become mushy and ruin the texture of the dish.
- Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is the key to a great baked spaghetti. Make sure to use a sauce that is packed with flavor. You can use a store-bought sauce or make your own from scratch.
- Layer the ingredients properly: When assembling the baked spaghetti, layer the ingredients in the following order: pasta, sauce, cheese, and then more pasta. This will ensure that the pasta is evenly coated with sauce and cheese.
- Bake the spaghetti until it is bubbly and golden brown: The baked spaghetti should be baked until it is bubbly and the cheese is golden brown. This will take about 30 minutes.
Conclusion:
Baked spaghetti is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for any occasion. With its simple ingredients and classic flavor, it is sure to be a hit with everyone at your table. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give baked spaghetti a try. You won't be disappointed!
