CAROLYN'S KOOL-AID® PICKLES

Carolyn's KOOL-AID® Pickles image

The kids I babysit for love these -- red Kool Aid gives ordinary pickles a bright red color and adds fruity sweetness to their normal tang. I'm told they originated in the Southern US. I've also heard they are bar snacks, which may explain a lot. They are pretty, but I have to admit that I don't care for them very much.

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 3

32 oz jar dill pickles
1 pkg black cherry kool aid
3/4 c sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Drain the pickle juice from the jar. Mix the kool aid and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Pour back over the pickles and place in fridge. Let sit 5 to 7 days shaking once a day.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cucumbers: For best results, use pickling cucumbers, which are small and have thin skin. They will absorb the vinegar solution more easily.
  • Use fresh dill: Fresh dill adds a delicious flavor to the pickles. If you don't have fresh dill, you can use dried dill, but it won't be as flavorful.
  • Make sure the vinegar solution is boiling: This will help to kill any bacteria and ensure that the pickles are safe to eat.
  • Pack the cucumbers tightly into the jar: This will help to prevent them from floating and ensure that they are evenly pickled.
  • Let the pickles cool completely before eating: This will allow the flavors to develop and mellow.

Conclusion:

Kool-Aid pickles are a fun and easy way to enjoy a classic snack. They are perfect for parties, picnics, or just a quick snack. With a variety of Kool-Aid flavors to choose from, you can find a pickle that everyone will love. So next time you're looking for a new pickle recipe, give Kool-Aid pickles a try!
