Time 1h15m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 medium onion, diced
1 lb ground turkey Italian sausage
2 cups chopped kale
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 tablespoons italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 (24 ounce) jar marinara sauce
1 (16 ounce) container cottage cheese
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
9 whole grain no-boil lasagna noodles
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf Italian parsley

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375ºF.
  • On the stovetop, heat olive oil in a Dutch oven to medium-high heat. Add onion and cook 2-3 minutes, until starting to soften. Add turkey sausage and kale and sauté until sausage is browned and kale is wilted, about 5-6 minutes. Stir in garlic, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Remove from heat.

  • Bake in the oven for 35 minutes with the lid on. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 12 minutes. Turn the oven on a low broil and broil for 3-4 minutes, until cheese is bubbly and browned. Remove from the oven and allow to cool about 10 minutes.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better the ingredients, the better the lasagna will be. Look for fresh, flavorful sausage, kale, and cheese.
  • Don't overcook the kale. Kale is a hearty green that can withstand a bit of cooking, but overcooking will make it tough and bitter. Cook it just until it is wilted and tender.
  • Use a good quality pasta sauce. A flavorful pasta sauce is the key to a great lasagna. You can use a store-bought sauce or make your own. If you are making your own sauce, be sure to simmer it for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  • Layer the lasagna correctly. The order of the layers is important in lasagna. Start with a layer of sauce, then noodles, then cheese, then sausage and kale, and repeat. End with a layer of sauce and cheese.
  • Bake the lasagna until it is bubbly and golden brown. Lasagna typically takes about 30-40 minutes to bake. Check it frequently to make sure it is not overcooking.

Conclusion:

Lasagna with sausage and kale is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a special occasion or a weeknight meal. With its combination of flavorful sausage, hearty kale, and rich cheese, this lasagna is sure to be a hit with everyone at the table. So next time you are looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, give lasagna with sausage and kale a try.
