Time 45m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 -6 slices bacon (may substitute with turkey bacon)
1 medium onion, sliced
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup sour cream
1 (1 ounce) envelope ranch dressing mix
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
2 cloves garlic
1 head iceberg lettuce, cut into 4 wedges
shredded basil

Steps:

  • Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, drain on paper towels, reserving 1 teaspoon drippings in the skillet.
  • Crumble bacon and set aside.
  • Saute onion in hot drippings in skillet over medium heat for 10 minutes or until tender and lightly browned.
  • Remove onions from heat; cool.
  • Process buttermilk and the next 4 ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth, stopping a few times to scrape down sides.
  • Stir in onion.
  • Top each lettuce wedge with dressing; sprinkle with bacon.
  • Garnish, if desired with a bit of shredded basil.

Tips:

  • Select fresh and crisp lettuce: Choose firm heads of lettuce with brightly colored leaves. Avoid any wilted or bruised leaves.
  • Use a variety of toppings: To add flavor and texture, top your lettuce wedges with a variety of ingredients such as crumbled bacon, chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese, sliced hard-boiled eggs, and croutons.
  • Make your own dressing: A homemade dressing will give your salad a unique and flavorful touch. Try a simple vinaigrette made with olive oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper, or experiment with different herbs and spices.
  • Garnish with herbs: Fresh herbs like chives, parsley, or dill can add a pop of color and flavor to your salad. Sprinkle them on top before serving.
  • Serve immediately: Lettuce wedges are best served immediately after they are assembled. This will prevent the lettuce from wilting and the dressing from becoming watery.

Conclusion:

Lettuce wedge salads are a classic American dish that is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. With a variety of toppings, dressings, and garnishes, you can create a salad that is both delicious and visually appealing. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy meal, give a lettuce wedge salad a try. You won't be disappointed!
