Tips:

  • To achieve the perfect pie crust, use a combination of butter and shortening. Butter provides flavor, while shortening helps create a flaky texture.
  • Don't overwork the pie dough. Overworking the dough will make it tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Chill the pie dough before rolling it out. This will help prevent the dough from shrinking in the oven.
  • When rolling out the dough, use a light touch. Don't press down too hard, or the dough will become tough.
  • To prevent the pie crust from becoming soggy, pre-bake it before adding the filling.
  • When making the pecan filling, use high-quality pecans. Fresh, plump pecans will give the pie the best flavor.
  • Don't overcook the pie. The filling should be set, but still have a little bit of a jiggle to it.
  • Let the pie cool completely before serving. This will help the filling set and firm up.
