Tips for Grilling Ostrich Steak

  • Choose your marinade wisely: Use a marinade with an acidic component such as citrus juice, wine, or vinegar to tenderize the meat and add flavor. Avoid marinades with a high sugar content, as this can cause the meat to burn.
  • Don't over-marinate: Marinating ostrich steak for too long can make it tough. 2-4 hours is typically enough time for the marinade to penetrate the meat.
  • Bring the steak to room temperature before grilling: This will help it cook evenly. Allow the steak to rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes before grilling.
  • Use a hot grill: A hot grill will help sear the steak and prevent it from sticking. Preheat your grill to high heat before adding the steak.
  • Cook the steak for a short time: Ostrich steak cooks quickly, so don't overcook it. Cook it for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or 6-7 minutes per side for medium.
  • Let the steak rest before slicing: Allowing the steak to rest for a few minutes before slicing will help the juices redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and flavorful steak.

Conclusion

Ostrich steak is a lean, flavorful meat that is a great alternative to traditional beef or chicken. By following these tips, you can grill ostrich steak perfectly every time. Experiment with different marinades and cooking times to find your favorite way to enjoy this delicious meat.
