TERIYAKI MAHI MAHI

Teriyaki Mahi Mahi image

After trying a few mahi mahi recipes, this one is definitely my favorite. This glazed mahi mahi is good with rice, vegetables or salad. Blotting the fillets before cooking allows a nice brown crust to form. Cod or halibut can be used, too. -Michelle Ibarrientos, Torrance, California

KELLY'S KIHEI, MAUI TERIYAKI SAUCE

Kelly's Kihei, Maui Teriyaki Sauce image

This is a recipe that we used growing up on Maui. We mostly used it to marinade chicken or beef short rips and then grill the. Because of the sugar content, like barbecue sauce, be careful because it burns easily. I always cook on the grill using indirect heat.

MAUI TERIYAKI SAUCE MARINADE

Maui Teriyaki Sauce Marinade image

My family likes to use this marinade for pork chops, pork ribs or basically any meat that you choose to grill on the BBQ. It has a nice flavor and is quick and easy to do. You can marinate over night or just an hour... of course like most things the longer the marinating the stronger the flavor. This can also be halved for smaller family meals (1/2 recipe covers 4 small pork chops nicely.) I hope you enjoy :)

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup soy sauce
1 cup brown sugar (you can substitute white sugar if that's all you have)
1 garlic clove, crushed
fresh gingerroot, peeled and sliced lengthwise (size & length of your thumb)
2 green onions, diced (the GREEN part)
1/2 teaspoon sesame seed oil

Steps:

  • Add first two ingredients into a large mixing bowl, stir until sugar is dissolved. Then add the remaining ingredients and stir well. Pour over whatever meat you wish, beef, pork or chicken cover and marinate anywhere from 2 hours to 24 hours.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh garlic, ginger, and pineapple juice will give your teriyaki sauce the best flavor.
  • Don't boil the sauce: Boiling the sauce will destroy the flavor of the ingredients. Instead, simmer it gently over low heat.
  • Taste the sauce as you go: Adjust the seasonings to your liking. You may want to add more soy sauce, sugar, or vinegar.
  • Let the sauce cool before using: This will allow the flavors to meld together.
  • Use the sauce as a marinade: Teriyaki sauce is a great way to add flavor to chicken, fish, or beef. Marinate the meat for at least 30 minutes before cooking.
  • Use the sauce as a dipping sauce: Teriyaki sauce is also a great dipping sauce for egg rolls, spring rolls, or chicken nuggets.
  • Use the sauce as a stir-fry sauce: Teriyaki sauce can be used to make a quick and easy stir-fry. Just add your favorite vegetables and protein to a wok or skillet and stir-fry until cooked.

Conclusion:

Teriyaki sauce is a versatile and delicious sauce that can be used in a variety of dishes. It's easy to make at home and can be used as a marinade, dipping sauce, or stir-fry sauce. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a teriyaki sauce that will add flavor to your next meal.
