Tips for Making the Best Meatballs

  • Choose the right meat. A combination of beef, pork, and veal makes for the most flavorful meatballs. If you're using ground turkey or chicken, add some bread crumbs or oatmeal to help bind the meat together.
  • Season the meat well. Use a variety of spices and herbs to flavor the meat, such as garlic, onion, oregano, basil, and thyme. Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavor combinations.
  • Mix the meat gently. Overmixing the meat will make the meatballs tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Form the meatballs into uniform balls. This will help them cook evenly. Use a small ice cream scoop or a tablespoon to measure out the meat for each meatball.
  • Brown the meatballs before simmering them. This will help them hold their shape and prevent them from falling apart.
  • Cook the meatballs in a flavorful sauce. A tomato sauce is a classic choice, but you can also use a cream sauce, a barbecue sauce, or even a gravy.
  • Let the meatballs simmer for at least 30 minutes. This will help them absorb the flavors of the sauce.

Meatballs are a delicious and versatile dish that can be enjoyed in many different ways. Whether you're serving them as an appetizer, a main course, or a side dish, these tips will help you make the best meatballs possible.
