Roast asparagus this way and it becomes positively juicy. You'd think one pound would be enough for four people, but in my experience the thick stalks - the best kind to use - are really irresistible. Err on the side of extravagance, and polish up any leftovers for lunch the next day.

EASY ROASTED RANCH ASPARAGUS

Easy Roasted Ranch Asparagus image

Provided by Six Sisters Stuff

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 Tablespoon Hidden Valley Ranch dry dressing mix
2 bunches asparagus
Salt and Pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • In a bowl, mix the olive oil and dressing mix together.
  • Cut off the hard ends of the asparagus (1 inch to 2 inches) Add the asparagus to the bowl and mix well.
  • Spread the asparagus onto a baking sheet and cook at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Check the asparagus to see if it is cooked all the way through. If it is thick asparagus you will need to cook it longer.
  • Serve and season with salt and pepper if desired.

Tips:

  • Choose the Right Asparagus: Select fresh, firm asparagus spears with tight tips and a vibrant green color. Avoid spears with woody ends or wilted tips.
  • Trim the Asparagus: Snap off the tough, woody ends of the asparagus spears. You can also use a sharp knife to cut off about 1 inch from the bottom of each spear.
  • Roast at High Heat: Roasting the asparagus at a high temperature (425°F) helps to caramelize the natural sugars and create a slightly charred exterior, while keeping the inside tender.
  • Use Good Quality Olive Oil: Opt for extra virgin olive oil, which has a superior flavor and health benefits compared to regular olive oil.
  • Season Generously: Don't be shy with the seasonings! A combination of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika adds a delicious savory flavor to the roasted asparagus.
  • Roast Until Tender-Crisp: The ideal texture for roasted asparagus is tender-crisp, with a slight bite to it. Over-roasting can make the asparagus limp and mushy.
  • Serve Immediately: Roasted asparagus is best enjoyed fresh out of the oven. It can be served as a side dish or as part of a main course.

Conclusion:

Roasted asparagus is a simple yet elegant dish that showcases the natural flavors of this spring vegetable. With just a few basic ingredients and a few minutes in the oven, you can create a delicious and healthy side dish that will complement any meal. So, next time you're looking for an easy and flavorful side dish, give roasted asparagus a try!
