PUSHING UP DAISIES

This ombre pomegranate libation, made with smoky Mexican mezcal, gives a subtle nod to Day of the Dead celebrations. Much like tequila, mezcal is made from agave. But mezcal's smoky flavor comes from roasting agave hearts in an underground stone-lined firepit for several days before fermenting. See footnote for the recipe for pomegranate simple syrup.

Tips:

  • To make the most flavorful Mezcal Sunrise, use fresh-squeezed orange juice. This will give your cocktail a bright, citrusy flavor.
  • If you don't have grenadine, you can use simple syrup instead. However, grenadine will give your cocktail a more vibrant color.
  • Be careful not to over-shake your cocktail. Over-shaking can dilute the flavors and make your cocktail too watery.
  • Garnish your cocktail with an orange slice and a cherry for a classic presentation.
  • For a non-alcoholic version of the Mezcal Sunrise, omit the mezcal and replace it with orange juice or grapefruit juice.

Conclusion:

The Mezcal Sunrise is a refreshing and flavorful cocktail that is perfect for any occasion. With its beautiful sunrise-inspired colors and delicious blend of flavors, this cocktail is sure to impress your guests. Whether you are enjoying a brunch with friends, relaxing by the pool, or celebrating a special occasion, the Mezcal Sunrise is the perfect cocktail to sip and savor.
