¼ tsp hot chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric
2 tsp ground coriander

2 tsp garam masala
2 tbsp double cream (optional)
½ small bunch coriander , roughly chopped
naan bread or rice, to serve

Time 35m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 teaspoon olive oil
1 onion, cubed
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 lb minced beef
1/2 beef stock cube
4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons curry powder, madras
200 ml coconut milk

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a medium hot pan.
  • Brown onions. Throw a little dash of salt on the onions. Stops them burning.
  • Put the garlic in the pan and cook for about 1 min.
  • Move the onions and garlic to the side of the pan and brown the mince.
  • If a lot of liquid comes off the mince pour it into a little bowl hang onto it for later.
  • Once the mince is brown, turn up the heat and let it sit in the pan for about 4 mins until you get some searing on the meat. This is where the flavour is going to come from.
  • Mix the liquid from the meat if not too fatty, stock cube and dashes of worcestershire sauce. Keep to one side.
  • When mince is browner -- lower the heat to medium add the curry powder and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add the stock liquid, make sure this is well mixed.
  • Add the coconut milk. Mix well. Once simmering lower the heat and cook for about 20 minutes This gets better with time.
  • If the curry is too strong use the leftover milk from the coconut milk tin to thin. Usually 400 ml in a tin.
  • Serve with rice, put some veg with it or the carb police will be after me! :D.

CURRIED BEEF WITH WINTER VEGETABLES

Curried Beef with Winter Vegetables image

The UK has a large Indian/Pakistani population, so curry is a popular meal where I live. I don't like hot curries, but mild ones are a nice change. This is a mild curried beef recipe with root vegetables. It's very filling and goes nicely with brown basmati rice. Chinese Five Spice is a mixture of aniseed, cinnamon, fennel, pepper, and cloves.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cut of beef: Chuck roast, brisket, and short ribs are all good choices for beef curry. These cuts are tough, but they become tender when cooked slowly in a flavorful sauce.
  • Brown the beef before adding it to the curry: This will help to develop the flavor of the beef and prevent it from becoming tough.
  • Use a variety of spices: Curry powder is the key to a good beef curry, but you can also add other spices, such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala.
  • Don't be afraid to adjust the heat level: If you like your curry mild, use less chili powder or cayenne pepper. If you like it hot, add more.
  • Let the curry simmer for a long time: This will allow the flavors to develop and meld together.
  • Serve the curry with rice, naan, or roti: These breads are perfect for sopping up the delicious sauce.

Conclusion:

Beef curry is a delicious and versatile dish that can be made with a variety of ingredients. Whether you like your curry mild or hot, there is a recipe out there to suit your taste. So next time you're looking for a hearty and flavorful meal, give beef curry a try.
