MOCK BOJANGLES BISCUITS

These are so good. I can't remember where the recipe came from but I think they are easy and tasty. I have really had some funny experiences trying to make biscuits in my lifetime. I have found that I prefer to roll them out rather than cutting them out. You can do either with this recipe.

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 cup(s) self-rising flour*
2 teaspoon(s) powdered sugar
3 teaspoon(s) baking powder
1/2 cup(s) crisco (or any shortening)
1 1/2 cup(s) buttermilk*
- *see last step in directions for substitutes*

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450. Blend all dry ingredients together then form a hole in center. Cut in the crisco then stir in the buttermilk and knead a few times.
  • I pinch off dough and roll in my palms then shape. I then flatten them a bit using my knuckles then pat a little water on top to dampen the flour. You can roll out onto a floured surface and cut out rounds of dough if you want.
  • Place into your greased pan and bake at 450 for approximately 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • SELF-RISING FLOUR SUBSTITUTES: 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 TBSP baking powder 3/4 tsp salt 3/4 tsp baking soda or cream of tartar ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ BUTTERMILK SUBSTITUTE: 1 1/4 TBSP lemon juice or white vinegar plus enough milk to equal 1 1/2 cups. Stir vigorously then let stand for 5 minutes.

Tips:

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting. This allows them to combine more evenly, resulting in a smoother biscuit.
  • Use a grater to shred the frozen butter. This creates small, even pieces that will distribute throughout the dough more easily.
  • Work the dough quickly and avoid overmixing. Overmixing can result in tough, dense biscuits.
  • Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. This will ensure that the biscuits are cooked evenly.
  • Place the biscuits close together on the baking sheet. This will help them rise and create a golden brown crust.
  • Bake the biscuits in a preheated oven at 425°F for 10-12 minutes. This will ensure that they are cooked through and fluffy.
  • Serve the biscuits warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.

Conclusion:

These Mock Bojangles Biscuits are a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast or snack. With just a few simple ingredients, you can enjoy these fluffy, golden brown biscuits in no time. Whether you serve them with butter, honey, or your favorite jam, these biscuits are sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
